Polish education is based primarily on the following acts of parliament: The Education System Act (Ustawa o systemie oswiaty) of 1991, the Higher Education Act (Ustawa o szkolnictwie wyzszym) of 1990 and the Scholarly Degrees and Titles Act (Ustawa o tytule naukowym i stopniach naukowych) of 1990. These are supplemented with more detailed regulations by the Minister of National Education.

The Institute of Computer Science offers several modern educational programs allowing students to acquire higher education in computer science (within the domain Mathematical Sciences). The forms of studies are following.
the Master of Science program
This is a basic form of studies. It lasts ten semesters and is
concluded with the Masters examination. Admission is based upon an entrance examination
(there is no tuition for Polish citizens). Actually the studies have 407 students with 48
female.
the Bachelor of Science program ('Licence' program)
This program lasts six semesters and is concluded with the Bachelor
examination. Candidates are admitted with an entrance examination (tuition fees). There
are 100 students in this program.
the Complementary Master of Science program
This complementary studies are a three year regular course, intended
for students with the Bachelor of Science diploma, concluded with the Master examination
(no tuition for Polish citizens). Actually the program has 11 participants.
the UIC/JU Master of Science program:
This is a program offered by University
of Illiniois at Chicago (UIC) and Institute of Computer Science of Jagiellonian
University, intended for students with the Bachelor of Science diploma, granting UIC MS
degree and taught in English (tuition fees). From AY 1999/00 this program is suspended.
Post-Master Studies in Computer Science
This program is intended for candidates with Master degrees and lasts three semesters. Two specializations are offered (tuition fees).

the Post-diploma program: Computer Science for School Teachers
The Institute organizes numerous other teaching activities, not directly connected with undergraduate or graduate studies.
The head of the Bachelor of Science program is J. Rosek. The head of the Post-Master Studies specialization Software Engineering is M. Smołka and the specialization Computer Science for School Teachers is directed by A. Ochal.
Starting from 1998 the lab for blind and visually impaired students is open in the Institute. The head of this lab is A. Woch.
Except UIC/JU MS program, the offered courses are taught in Polish, so please continue on Polish version of this page. The English version pages are in preparation.
