The Master of Science (MS) degree of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) can be obtained taking courses for one year at the Institute of Computer Science of Jagiellonian University (JU) in an international environment. In 1999/2000 this degree will be granted in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
The MS program consists of seven one-semester courses, each of 45 hours per semester, including e.g. computer algorithms, object-oriented languages, and advanced topics in software engineering. Program starts on October 1, 1999 and enrollment is on a two-semester basis only. All classes in the program and MS Thesis research are conducted in English. Course instructors will be either from visiting faculty from UIC or faculty of the Institute of Computer Science of JU.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Two classes of applicants may be admitted in the program:
1. Those possessing a University degree equivalent to a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications or other closely related areas (such as Mathematics, Physics, other engineering programs).
2. Students enrolled in a University curriculum leading to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science or related areas after more than three years. Applicants from this class can be admitted before completion of that degree requirement.
The average grade attained must be above a threshold level corresponding to a grade point average of 4.0/5.0. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to obtain a minimum score of 230 in the TOEFL examination.
Tuition and general fees will be charged as for residents of the State of Illinois, that is, $4,544 for the entire program plus $1,000 for general fees to JU.
Motorola will sponsor up to ten students accepted in the program with a Bachelor degree or only three years completed of a five year MSc degree. Motorola will offer graduate student intern positions at the Motorola Polska Software Center in Krakow. As a part of these positions, Motorola will pay the UIC tuition and fees and fund the intern positions. Motorola intern positions will earn $200 per month for 16 hours per week of work for 9 months. The JU fees will be covered by students.
One 3-year full PhD fellowship at UIC is offered annually to the top student graduated from the MS program.
The deadline for submission of all necessary documents is Friday, May 28, 1999.
