Types of studies

The Institute of Computer Science and Mathematics of Jagiellonian University has been providing education in computer science since its establishment in 1975. Making sure to provide an attractive didactic offer in the field of postgraduate studies, the Institute constantly updates the taught content, introduces new studies, and searches for new forms of teaching.

As part of the extramural studies, the Institute currently conducts the following postgraduate studies:

 

Postgraduate studies "Software Engineering and Business Tools" last 3 semesters and studies in the specialties "Software Testing", and "Business Analysis" last 2 semesters. Since the 2003/2004 academic year, the postgraduate studies programs have undergone significant changes consisting of their adaptation to the current requirements of accreditation in the field of computer science. Since 2012/2013 postgraduate studies program "Software Engineering and Business Tools" has been modified. Postgraduate studies " Software Testing" have been conducted since the academic year 2015/2016.

The recruitment of candidates takes place through the System of Internet Recruitment of Candidates .

Postgraduate studies in "Software Engineering and Business Tools"

General information
The "Software Engineering and Business Tools" postgraduate studies were launched in October 2001 as one of the first postgraduate studies in Poland with elements of distance learning. From the 2011/2012 academic year, the study program was modified and adapted to the expectations and needs of the candidates.
During the course of studies, the student has the opportunity to choose subjects several times. Due to this, he can adapt the implemented program to his individual needs and interests. Taking into account the dynamics of IT development, the curriculum is often modified.

Postgraduate studies in "Software Engineering and Business Tools" last three semesters and are paid, with the admission limit of 40 people.

Graduate profile

A graduate of the postgraduate studies "Software Engineering and Business Tools" has extensive knowledge in modern fields of computer science and, depending on the choice of subjects, is prepared to take up professional work in such areas as server administration (Windows or ), database management systems , programming.

Recruitment rules

  1. Recruitment of candidates will be held via the Candidates' Internet Recruitment System.
  2. Candidates are selected on the basis of applications (the order of applications is decisive).

Access to the resources of the Institute of Computer Science and Mathematics
Postgraduate students have access to the resources of the Institute of Computer Science and Mathematics on an equal footing with full-time students. They can use computer labs, a library located at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, and software (including software under the DreamSpark license by Microsoft).

General information

Postgraduate studies in "Software Testing" were created as a result of close cooperation of the Institute of Computer Science and Mathematics of Jagiellonian University with a group of experienced practitioners dealing with quality management in software projects as well as recruitment and education of software testers, analysts, and test managers. The studies are aimed at:

  • testers, quality engineers, and other people responsible for quality assurance and control in software projects,
  • other employees of IT companies,
  • anyone considering choosing a new career path related to professional software quality assurance.

The studies are aimed at people with exact / technical education as well as people with a different educational profile. The level of advancement of the presented topics will be adjusted to meet the level of the participants' advancement.

Postgraduate studies in "Software Testing" last two semesters and are paid. The admission limit is 40 people. The cost of the entire study (2 semesters) is PLN 6,000.

For willing students, it is possible to take the ISTQB certification exam - Certified Tester - Basic Level at a discount, due to the contract with the Information Systems Quality Association. Exam price: PLN 580 net (market price: PLN 700 net).

Graduate profile

The graduate has knowledge of the basics of software testing and quality assurance. He knows and understands the need to implement the test process in the company. Has knowledge of test design techniques and test process management. Knows and understands the need to (meaningfully) document the test process. Has knowledge of test automation.

The graduate is able to design, implement and execute effective test cases. He is able to professionally analyze functional and non-functional requirements with defects in mind. Can develop a test plan adapted to both the test project and the software development process. Can assess the profitability of test automation in the organization. Is able to automate tests suitable for automation. He can plan, prepare, and configure a test environment, conduct supervision and control over the course of the test process, and manage a team of testers in the organization. Is able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the project.

General information


A business analyst is a person who operates at the interface between IT and business. The analyst deals with the analysis of customer needs, sourcing, specification, and modeling of requirements as well as developing the concept of the target solution. An effective analyst combines substantive competences with strong communication skills and acts as a field expert, negotiator, and liaison between the client and the IT team.

Postgraduate studies "Business Analysis" were created in cooperation with practitioners with many years of experience as business analysts and specialists in the field of soft skills. The studies are aimed at all those who would like to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to work as a business analyst on IT projects.

During the studies, special emphasis is placed on providing knowledge through experience. The classes focus on the development of the participants' analytical skills and practical hard and soft skills.

The studies are aimed at people with higher education at the level of at least bachelor's degree in any field of study.

Postgraduate studies on "Business Analysis" last two semesters, are paid, and the admission limit is 40 people. The cost of the entire study (2 semesters) is PLN 6,000. The classes are conducted by practitioners with extensive professional experience.

For willing students, it is possible to take the IREB Foundation Level certification exam at a discount, due to the agreement with the Information Systems Quality Association. Exam price: PLN 660 net (market price: PLN 800 net).
